Hong Kong Children’s Clothing Store Chickeeduck Gets Political

Hong Kong’s children’s clothing chain Chickeeduck has a new addition in store, a 2-meter high statue “Lady Liberty”, portraying a Hong Kong protester donning helmet, respirator and an umbrella.

The store owner Herbert Chow said the political display is the voice of people, and he will not remove the statue despite his landlord’s request.

Chow, like the majority of businessmen in Hong Kong, used not to be vocal about politics, but as he sees the deteriorating democracy in Hong Kong, he hopes other businessmen can speak up, “I want to take up the responsibility actually to go around town to tell them that this white terror is actually not a real fear.”
