Police Clear Seattle ‘CHOP’ Zone Following Mayor’s Executive Order

Police entered the Capital Hill Occupied Protest zone (CHOP) in Seattle, Washington, following an executive order from the city’s mayor Jenny Durkan on July 1.

The order said demonstrators must clear the zone as the gathering of protesters in the area had been deemed an “unlawful assembly.”
Seattle Police said the executive order was put in place following the deaths of two teenagers, three people being seriously wounded in “late-night shootings,” as well as “documented robberies, assaults, and other violent crimes.”

Video shows police entering the CHOP on 12th Avenue in the city and standing in a line outside the East Precinct building before forcing protesters back to an intersection.
