Ringo Starr Celebrates 80th Birthday With Support for Black Lives Matter Movement

Ringo Starr is supporting the Black Lives Matter movement while he celebrates his 80th birthday.

The former Beatle made an appearance at a “Peace and Love” statue in Santa Monica, California on Tuesday (7 JULY) and was backing a live-stream concert directing donations to the cause. His former bandmate Paul McCartney was joining in the performance.

“Let’s get it together. Peace and love! You cannot say peace and love and see a guy on the ground with someone’s knee in his throat. That’s not very peace and loving,” Starr said in an interview.

Starr said he’d been inspired by many Black musicians throughout his career.

“You’ll see in the show tonight. At 19, I was trying to emigrate to Houston, Texas because of Lightnin’ Hawkins. And of course Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Little Richard, no one finer. So many!” he said.
