Japan’s No Screaming Roller Coasters Brace for Covid-19 Era

To fight the spread of Covid-19 in Japan, Fuji-Q Highland amusement park known for its roller coasters asked visitors to not scream on rides.

When visitors said it was impossible not to scream on rides, two company executives took a ride on the park’s top attraction to set an example.

They posted a video online of themselves riding the Fujiyama roller coaster in complete silence. It ended with a message written in Japanese and translated as, “Please scream from inside your heart.”

The no screaming rule is part of its new coronavirus preventative and safety measures. It also asks visitors to wear a mask, get their temperatures checked, social distance in lines and sanitize their hands throughout the park. Anyone with a fever higher than 37.5°C or have Covid-19 symptoms will not be allowed to enter the park.

Other measures include a facial recognition ticketing system,
spaced out seating, closures of the smoking areas to prevent crowding.

Fuji-Q Highland says it considers the health and safety of customers and employees to be the top priority, and adheres to the “Government Guideline for Preventing the Expansion of New Coronavirus Infections at Amusement Parks and Theme Parks.”
