Italy Returns Stolen Banksy Artwork to Bataclan Music Hall in Paris

Italian authorities on Tuesday returned to France a stolen Banksy artwork that was painted as a tribute to the victims of the 2015 attacks at the Bataclan music hall in Paris.

The piece of art was handed over during a ceremony at the French Embassy in Rome, the same day France celebrated Bastille Day.

Italy’s Carabinieri recovered the Bataclan’s door on 10 June, after it disappeared from the Paris club in January 2019.

The French ambassador to Italy, Christian Masset, said the door represented the memory of the 90 victims who lost their lives in the 2015 attack. He described the door turned piece of art as a “witness of the attack.”
