Texas Brings in Refrigerated Trucks to Store Dead Bodies in San Antonio

San Antonio has refrigerated trucks on standby as hospitals and morgues run out of space for bodies.

The city’s Metro Health acquired five refrigerated trailers to store up to 180 bodies.

“We’re seeing a surge in the hospital morgues. We’re knowing that funeral homes are also backlogged,” Mario Martinez, the assistant director of Metro Health said. “And so this is really a moment for us to repeat our Cauvin 19 precautions, wearing the face, covering, avoiding crowds, social distancing, keeping within your social bubble of the immediate household.”

Martinez said staff and security will monitor the refrigerated trailers. He added they may add more trailers if needs become more acute.
