Black Lives Matter: Thousands Protest in Chicago on Day of National Strike






Dozens of Chicago protesters joined the national “Strike for Black Lives” to protest systemic racism and economic inequality they say has only worsened during the coronavirus pandemic.

Twenty-nine-year-old Ash Girtley works at a Peet’s Coffee store in Chicago.

“These big box corporations, they’re saying that they support Black Lives Matter,” she says, “but how are you saying you support Black Lives Matter when you’re not supporting the black lives or your front lines.”

Chicago protesters filled the street outside a downtown McDonald’s restaurant where speakers talked about their experiences as Black people working in fast food restaurants.
