Warren Blames Republicans for Failing to Compromise Over Coronavirus Aid Package

Why did a bipartisan coronavirus stimulus bill worth $2 trillion fail? Because “Republican leadership pretended to negotiate with Democrats for three days and then basically introduced their own bill,” Elizabeth Warren says, discussing negotiations and calling for compromise to pass the legislation.

With Democrats and Republicans blaming each other for delays, the Senate is struggling to complete a nearly $2 trillion economic rescue package.

Democrats had derailed the aid plan Sunday night, arguing it was tilted toward corporations and did too little to help workers and health care providers.

On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that he thinks they’re close to reaching a deal with White House officials.

But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell angrily warned Democrats and Pelosi in particular to quit stalling and strike a deal.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia. The vast majority of people recover from the new virus. According to the World Health Organization, people with mild illness recover in about two weeks, while those with more severe illness may take three to six weeks to recover.
