U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday said he was “absolutely appalled and shocked” by the explosion in Lebanon and reiterated U.K. support for people affected.
Johnson said the U.K. has sent HMS Enterprise to survey the port in order to help repair damage, as well as a medical team.
On Wednesday, the U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it would make up to £5 million in emergency humanitarian funding available to people made homeless by the explosion.
“This is something that is going to take a long time to recover and I ensure that the UK will continue to focus on the needs of the people of Lebanon,” he said.
