Tropical Storm Beta Causes Severe Flooding in Houston

Heavy rains from Tropical Storm Beta created “impassable flooding” along some roadways in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday, September 22, local media reported.

The center of storm Beta crossed the Texas coast at around 10 pm on Monday night, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

Heavy rain from Beta caused Keegans Bayou in Houston to overflow on September 21, “swallowing cars on Highway 59 and West Bellfort in southwest Houston,” local media reported.

This footage shows flooding at the intersection shortly after midnight on September 22.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said on Tuesday that dozens of locations across Houston were flooded, and he encouraged drivers to stay off the roadways.
