LeBron James on Breonna Taylor: Black Women Are ‘Not Alone’

LeBron James has spoken out about a Kentucky grand jury’s decision concerning the fatal shooting of Louisville woman Breonna Taylor.

“It shows once again that the walls of a neighbor is more important than her life,” the basketball player said when asked about the case following the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over the Denver Nuggets on September 24.

“You just look at the history of America and the disrespect that black women have gotten for the last 400 years,” he said. “You can’t turn a blind eye to that.”

James told reporters, “Not only did I want to acknowledge that for all the black queens in this world, but also the ones that’s in my life.”

The NBA star said he felt like “it was important to let black women know they’re not alone.”

James said, “No matter the disrespect or what they may feel, don’t stop. Because that’s exactly what they want you guys to do. They want you guys to stop.”

Protests erupted across the US after former police officer Brett Hankison was charged with wanton endangerment in relation to the fatal shooting of Taylor during a raid on her apartment in March. Two other officers who discharged their weapons were not charged.
