Comey Says Trump Is Inciting Violence from White Supremacists

The former FBI Director James Comey says President Donald Trump’s inability to condemn white supremacist groups is like “spraying gasoline with a fire hose” on a fire.

“It creates a dangerous blaze for all of us, not just people of color but for every community in America that has … these thugs and criminals,” Comey said.

Comey was responding to questions from Sen. Cory Booker on how Trump’s statements affect the FBI’s ability to fight threats from far-right groups.

Comey appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday as Republican lawmakers confronted him about his oversight of the Trump-Russia investigation.

The politically charged hearing has focused attention on problems with a probe that have becoming a rallying cry for supporters of President Donald Trump. The Judiciary Committee’s chairman Lindsey Graham sought to bring the focus back to the investigation saying, “the democracy we all cherish depends upon law and order, depends on truth telling. It depends upon the system being fair to those who are accused. It depends upon courts being informed of exculpatory information.”
